Rake at standard height

Hi all. Relatively new to me 98 limited Runner. Spent the weekend doing the LBJs and OTEs and alignment. Fun project. Now I need to move on combating the suspension issues. Someone replaced the shocks with something cheap and generic. The rear has a sliiiight sag but the car looks OK. The ride seems to sway slightly sometimes. The shocks seem to be damping ok but I think the springs are tired.

Looking for a solution to give me a slight rake from front to back with moderate lift if any. Mostly I'm on the street and I prefer firmer rides. I feel like the front end dips in turns and I kind of hate it. Based on all the reading I wanted to get FJ coils front and rear and the bilstein 5100s. But it doesn't seem like the FJ coils are easily found.

Was considering OME 906 rear and bilsteins. Given my goals will the 906s give me a decent rake and a slight lift? What do I need for the front?

I was in a similar situation as you. My rear springs were on there way out so I bought OME 906's except I already had KYB gas adjusts so I just used those. I gained like 4" of lift because my old springs were so worn. I probably gained 2" from where it was supposed to be.

I have stock springs/struts in the front. I definitely have a rake but its not bad IMO. I also have probably 200lbs of gear/tools in the back at all times. It is also nice for towing a decent sized trailer. I just bought a pretty good sized boat and it was sagging the 4R at all with the 906 springs.

So, you could just run OME 906's with Bilstein struts in the rear and call it a day. Or you could put OME 880 with Billys in the front too. Eventually that is going to be my plan when the money comes around.

I have 906 in the rear and 99 tall in the front and it looks nice with about an inch of rake, but I like a bit of rake. The 906 were the same size as the stock springs but much stiffer. I have loaded it up with 800+ lbs before and it handled it fine.I think it would look ok if you have the tow bar and spare tire weight. I plan on getting those new 6 thousand whatever shocks at some point and I'll add some 10mm packers in the back.

I actually wouldn't mind a little rake. I have the big tow bar in the back and right now (I haven't measured) but I would say my rear is either level to, or sitting 1 inch under my front. I don't have much experience with these trucks but I feel like there's a lot of side to side movement when I push on the bumper. Up/down movement is fairly well damped (shocks look fairly new, just crappy brand).

Highway manners are good under 70, then the front end starts feeling REALLY light and swimmy. I thought the ball joints and tie rod ends would make that better, but I think the coils have something to do with it.

I'd like to go ahead and do it all at once, the bilstein package for all 4 shocks is priced really well, and I feel like all coils are pretty tired. Any reason to do the stock talls over the OME 880 in front?

Thanks. I really like that stance. But my tires are stock and I spend most of my time on the street. Would that setup look odd with smaller tires?

It will look fine. If anything his rig looks to low for the tires IMO.

906 springs in the rear for sure. I've had them two years now, and the rake is still perfect.

One day, a stock suspension 4runner was parked next to me in this same lot, and looked positively saggy in comparison.

99's are more expensive than the equivalent OME ones. I wish I went with the OMEs instead of 99's for that reason, but oh well.

I mainly use the truck to ride on the street, I just kinda hate the body roll. Some people don't like the OMEs due to a rough ride - my 6 month old is often in the back.

My wife drives a GTI and I drive a Carrera so we are used to firm rides. I know this is subjective, but, no big deal?

I just think for the price, the OMEs seem like the best bet. The LC springs or FJ springs seem more theoretical (can't find them anywhere), and new springs are silly expensive.

I'd get the OME 880's for the front and not the 99 tall oem springs. Adding a mild 2" lift will not really change the driving feel of the truck at all.

It will look fine with your sized tires too. I am very pleased with the ride of the 906's. It's also nice to have a ton of weight in the back and not have the ass dragging on the ground...

I put a wanted post on craigslist for FJ springs and after a couple weeks I scored a 35k mile set for like $60 or something, best thing ever, slight rake, 'springyish' ride. Even loaded down with a cargo box and fair camping load its level at least with a plush ride. have orig 100k 99 talls on front.
