Rancheria Road in Bakersfield

My son's grandfather (his mom's dad) is in the hospital up in Bakersfield and it isn't looking good so we took a run up this weekend to see him. His house is in Lake Isabella (Bodfish) and so I figured I'd try to make a run of it while I was up there. Rancheria Road actually runs from the 178 in Bakersfield to the 155 just above Wofford Heights. It's about a 35 mile forest service road that in good conditions a passenger car can drive through. We only made it about 10 miles in before I had to turn around. The road was super slick mud at the turn around point on a somewhat steep hill (you can't really tell in the video) and since I was out solo with my son and his sister I wasn't taking any chances.

Smart move by making a U especially with little ones. When you made the U and started heading back, were you sliding towards the mountain side?

Smart move by making a U especially with little ones. When you made the U and started heading back, were you sliding towards the mountain side?

I definitely freaked his sister out for a moment (she's 18, my ex's daughter) as I was turning around. When I was headed back up yeah, I slid towards it once. Right before I hit that section I was thinking that I should have probably aired down. Likely would have helped the sliding around issues. Otherwise I was pretty impressed with the Duratracs @ 40 psi. That mud was a thin top layer on top of hard packed dirt and when I turned around it was a decent grade climbing back up. It was like driving in snot, super super slick.
