So I started experimenting a really odd issue that I'm hoping someone can help me narrow down, because since the problem is completely random and unpredictable, I can't get my dealership to fix it since I can't repro the issue.
I have a first production run 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 (built in 11/2002). So early in the production run that I even had to swap out my ABS/VSC computer because of a error in the design the caused Toyota to release a TSB with a redesigned and corrected part.
I always do the same routine when I leave with my truck. I unlock twice with the remote key fob, then get in and drive.
Every once in a while, I leave and then randomly I start hearing clicking in my dash and the illumination of the entire dash blinks, both synchronously and in a very distinct pattern.
It's like the sound a blinker relay makes. And the pattern is very steady and precise:
Click - Clock - Click - Clock (maybe a half-second delay between each)
Then a delay of maybe 60 or 90 seconds, then :
Click (maybe a three second delay then) Clock
So all together, the pattern that repeats is as such:
Click (0.5s) Clock (0.5s) Click (0.5s) Clock (60s) Click (3s) Clock (pause for a long time and repeats)
Everytime there's a click, the dash illumination is turned on. So if my headlights are already off, the dash and the radio light up during every click as if I had just turned on my headlights, and then everything goes back to dark with every clock. If my headlights were already on, such as when I'm driving at night, there'a no change in illumination. Also, there are no visual changes on the outside of my truck with headlights off or on. No blinkers blink or anything, its only a change in dash illumination.
Anyone have any ideas?
