Is there a way to enable 4WD while standing still. For instance, if you were already stuck somewhere, could you enable 4WD? While sitting still (at a stop light for instance) the 4WD never seems to enable until I begin to move.

Also, what type of lifts do you all have for your 04 4runners (I have an SR5) and while at some custom truck shops around here I was asking about different options and they said there really aren't that many options for 4th generation 4runners, he found one company with a lift requiring about $1,500. Anything cheaper then that? I'm looking into a 2.5 - 3" lift.

Usually it takes a movement for the 4wd to engage. Forward or reverse. When I used to plow snow up north our Chevy's would have to move a bit before everything lined up to engage. Sometimes the gears are not aligned properly until the movement occurs and then the gears can slide together.

no movement necessary

This was discussed in a previous post, but the engaging of 4WD requires either a time delay or a sequence of steps to work from a standstill. Time delay is obvious (about 30 seconds to engage when standing still). Sequence of steps is shift tranny to neutral, shift to 4H, then shift back to drive (someone posted this works every time).

Lifts will run you about 400-600 for parts, plus labor. If you want someone else to do the labor, you should approximately double that figure.

my o4 v6 runner goes in 4 wheel from a standstill with no problem.shift to neutral engage four high and tap the brakes a time or two.it works everytime for me.try it

is $400-600 for parts (doubled for labor) about the best I should expect to get? or are there cheaper options that some of you know of?

I'm just looking for a ball park for when I decide to get this done

Shaun posted that shop in Chantilly that charges about $72 an hour for labor. You should be able to buy a revtek kit for about $500 and they can do the install. I'd expect them to charge 3-4 hours... (just a guess)

which shop in chantilly? I am looking at Trick Trucks which said they could do it but it would be quite expensive.
