Rare 2nd Gen US Spec OEM Factory Options / Accessories Thread

What are some of the rarer, or even more obscure factory or dealer installed options/ accessories you've seen or heard of for the 2nd gens?


1. I've seen some threads on a factory upgraded stereo system (which apparently seems to go bad after a few years).

2. (aftermarket) I remember Performance Products had a catalog dedicated to the 4runner. They had PIAA bumper mounted lights for $1000, and brush guards for the rear tail lights.

I liked the 350 c.i. V8 option and the optional solid front axle! Huh? Those weren't factory options? Never mind...

The bike rack attachment, cell phone accessory, and the TVSS(Toyota Vehicle Security System) for 1994 and 1995, those are all rare items i've had yet to find.

Well that would be aftermarket, not factory, and there's plenty of aftermarket catalogs for every gen Toyota.

The only factory option that really could be considered rare is the winch on the 1st gen runners/2nd gen trucks.

2 door 2nd gen is rare. What about turbo? I Know they had them 1st gen. I guess those wouldn't be dealer installed....... I don't listen. :-\

The turbo 4 (22RTE) was only in 86 and 87.
The 2nd gen 2 dr was discontinued after a few years because they weren't popular.
Why build something if it isn't selling.

One obvious one is the swingaway spare carrier--that was only available for two years before being discontinued. I guess with stock-size tires it just made more sense to hide the spare under the truck. I know I sure would like a bumper-mounted (the factory one was mounted to the body) swingaway spare carrier on my next one.
