My wife's 2004 4Runner's sending unit went out a couple of weeks ago leaving her stranded since it died indicating she had 1/4 tank of fuel. When I called all 3 dealers in Austin, they were all out and that they had cars waiting on them. One guy said "they are going through them like water." Well today my 2003 4Runner was indicating 1/8th tank, and I ran out of gas. Fortunately it gave me some warning by dying under acceleration but staying running at low RPM, so I was able to idle into a fuel station nearby. This is actually my second sending unit on the 2003 as the first one died under warranty.
Anybody else seeing this problem or have an idea of the cause? I plan to look at the bad one I took out under the microscope to see if I see anything wrong, but it looks much better than I expected and I can't offhand see any reason it should read 70 ohms when the float is all the way down.
