Rasta Skid Plates

Anyone interested in full 5 mm aluminum skid protection...contact Rasta 4x4 USA. I just got an email back from them saying they have skid plates for the 5th gen 4runner. I've had their products before and they are top notch. Not sure on pricing yet, but I should be getting an email quote soon.

Because they are not nearly strong enough to protect the underside from damage when encountering off road obstacles. A good skid is made of high strength steel, or thick aluminum and can carry a great deal of weight.

So what you're saying is that the stock ones are pretty much useless?

Unless you have a Trail the skid plate on the fuel tank covers 35%. You have 65% of exposed bare fuel tank hanging there. So, if you take a trail wrong and slip down on a rock......:bash:

I would like to know the same cause I hit pretty hard with mine and they dented just a little bit.:rockthrow:

i hit mine pretty hard as well and they seemed to have held up decently.

i sprayed the areas with black tremclad (rust reformer) to prevent rusting.

I just got a second email back from Rasta 4x4...I'm concerned that they don't have something available for the 5th gen. They said that the skids they have are for the 120 series land cruiser and some have modified them for the 4runners...without questioning them, I'm thinking that they are not aware of the new style/chasis/platform and that the skids may not fit. It's just speculation but I thought I should share.

Good luck if anyone looks into this further and do let us know. Looking at the previous damage posts, I'm keeping the skids that my TE came with. Looks like they held up really well.

YES! They make it seem like all get the same, but the TE has FULL ones, while the SR5 and LE only have partial.

Aftermarket body armor is generally thicker/stronger. Budbuilt most likely will have some for 5th Gens. before long. BudBuilt Frames & Accessories

That's really helpful, thanks! One more question though... I stuck my head under the truck and it appears that the catalytic converter is also unprotected. I'm assuming that there is no skid plate there on the TE either?

i dont recall the cat having any armor.

i think beyond the front skid and the gas tank toyota thought that people wouldnt need any further protection :hiding:

Our trucks actually have 2 catalytic converters,one on each side, that come directly off the exhaust manifolds.They are alot harder to steal/change when they are like that.Makes them harder to rip off the bottom too as they are very expensive.

What you are talking about probably is the,55 gallon barrel big, looking muffler along the pass. side frame rails. Same setup as TE. Seems like a smaller muffler/custom exhaust will be in the future.

That is actually not a bad price for the plate, I might call my dealership to see what they can do. Most of my offroad will be deep sand on the beach, nice to have the extra protection to just take the force when the tank makes contact. A few simple trails now and then but nothing to serious.

Budbuilt's FJ gas tank skid plate would probably fit too.About twice as thick as OEM and a few dollars more. If anybody is in or near North Carolina, they are looking for a 5th Gen. 4Runner to do a test fit.
