Rate this deal on a T4R ....

Maybe we need a sub-forum for these topics, but as someone shopping for our first T4R I've really enjoyed reading these threads since I joined this site.

Anyway, it's my turn:

• 2006
• Sport Edition
• V6
• 4WD
• 55k miles
• $22.9k asking price

If you didn't know they'd changed the body style and rolled this into a showroom it would sell as new - great condition all over.

It's still under warranty through next spring.

They just revised their previous price down $1k, but I think they'll come down a little more.

Edmunds TMV shows $22.3k for CPO (this is not a Toyota dealer) and $20.5k retail otherwise.

It's not officially CPO but probably would if the marquee sign had the big "T" on it. I figure somewhere between those two figures is about right. ~21.5

06 model and over $20k are both slightly above what we've been shopping for. But in terms of overall condition this is the nicest one we've seen so far.

I think it's still pricey (considering you have to pay taxes on it even tho the original owner ALREADY paid taxes on it). Which dealer is this truck at?

I agree its Pricey. At that point its almost better to weight your options and see if you can buy new. as stated after taxes and used car financing your at cost. If you know how to negoiate they are knocking big numbers off of suv's and trucks. I got my 07 sport on the road brand new for 27800 with 0% for 60months

It's not here in the Springs. It's on a used lot in Denver that an autobroker friend of ours recommended as a first rate lot to deal with.

We're not financing - paying cash in full, which is why I'm sticking close to my price point. I can go 21-ish for an exceptional truck.

DON'T tell your autobroker friend that you can go 21ish. Ask them how much did they really pay for it then give 'em $500 over. If they won't tell you then ask them if you had that same model, how much would they offer you? If not, then I suggest you bargain (lowball) them @ $12K and work your way up from there until all parties come up with an agreement. :cheers:

I agree: pricey. I'd offer $18k and go from there. SUV's aren't flying off the lots, not even Toyotas. I paid $28,500 ($35,500 MSRP, $30,000 out the door) for a new '08 Sport in November '08.

Pricey. I actually think with the turnover of the new model, which usually causes a larger than normal depreciation of the outgoing models, you should pay a lot less than 22k for that. Someone suggested starting at 18k but I think you should be able to get it for near that or 19k max.

Shoot I got my '08 last March from a dealer for $24K. It had 28,000 mi on it and was in mint condition an Toyota certified. Keep shopping.

Last April, picked up my 07 Sport 4X4, 18k miles, for $23k. Just to give you mark. You should be at around 19k for that vehicle I would think. You shouldnt have to pay for them having givin a high payout for the trade in, if thats the case.

I was finding 08's with 30k for 21-25 depending on mod, but we all must remember a few things.
1. PRice region to region can and will vary greatly, I live in the Greatlakes region and our prices on most used cars are generally lower than other ares
2. IF you want to know what a dealer is paying at auction (ie dealers do not use books to apraise car anymore, they use real time auction values to determin trade value) Your closest bet is go off rough book values on trade in via edmunds..edmunds, select trade values, pick the style and type condiont poor.
Just negotiate for the best deal you can get and if its more than you are willing to spend walk away.
I think a fair retail on that truck would be right around 19-21k
