I found an '08 Limited with very low miles, but she's in Iowa. Very wet area and I'm not sure if I should be concerned with this rust on the undercarraige or not. The vehicle is mint though.

on a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 being no rust and 10 being a rust bucket, I would give the rust rating a 3.5.

On a side note, is this vehicle lifted? The angle of CV axle doesn't look like stock to me. Usually stock CV have negative angle.

From what I understand, the vehicle is completely stock. No aftermarket lift at all.

So a 3.5, huh. I plan on doing the POR 15 treatment to what ever Runner I decide to get just for precaution sake.

I'm also trying to see how much leverage this gives me in price negotiations as well...

It's on a lift lol.

I understand your frustration here are some pics of my frame rust bullet'd
Took everything off to do it; control arms, all suspension components, misc lines, wiring and clips, brackets, deleted xreas, dropped front and rear diff, a"front and rear bumper, tow hitch, gas tank, spare, etc. Sanded and wire wheeled the entire frame then used prep all followed by metal ready a phos zinc treatment. Inside frame was treated with Eastwood inner frame treatment via a conical nozzle underbody spray gun.

Didnt do the top of frame, figure I'll do it if I do a body lift.

I bought the rust bullet because it's suppose to be better than por15 on adhesion and durability but I have used both and por15 is def stronger and sticks better. I topcoated the rust bullet with 2k bedliner using their instructions and there was adhesion problem with the topcoat an they don't want to admit
Fault. So I would def recommend por15 over rust bullet.

Since everything was out I changed over to 5100, fj coils, poly bushings all around, poly sway bushing and end link bushings, and replaced front caliper, rotor and pads all around, outer and inner tie rods, sway end links, ball joints, and wheel seals.

At least I have some rust protection, hope this gives you some inspiration to get it done

Heres a subframe I did with por15
Went on a lot smoother, no brush strokes, and is tough as hell,

Thats nothing, the one i just picked up is a 4\10 but im stopping it. I use oil for a few monthsto clean it then wash and treat it

Even though the Tacoma had major frame rust problems...it's very rare for a frame to rust out. Frames are usually so thick that it'll take decades to rust to the point of being unsafe.

Thanks a lot for all the replies and vodes of confidence!

This is the one I REALLY may get. She's got 47,000 mi, it's a 1 owner truck, and it's a Limited V6.

Very, very clean inside and out. The only problem is...just like ALL the other Runners I've been looking at...they want WAY too much.

It NADAs for $28,000 RETAIL as a certified vehicle; trade-in is right about $22,700. They want right at retail for it. Granted I've not haggled too much with them, but they seem pretty firm.

Are T4Rs really selling for over retail everywhere? All over AutoTrader you'll find extremely high prices all over the country...
