Rattle in the headliner

Let me preface this by saying I'm a BMW tech by trade and I ABSOLUTELY HATE diagnosing rattle noises. Most of the time I don't hear them amongst all the other rattles and noises the car makes. :hurt: Anyway......my 06 has a rattle in the headliner right at the sun glass holder. Ordinarily I do that greatest of rattle elimination steps, turn up the radio, however I can still hear this thing over the radio at a pretty good volume. The noise isn't that loud, it just seems to be right at the frequency I can hear at any time. Weird, I know. Anyone else have this noise? Kind of a taping on plastic over cracks in the road or mild jostling of the suspension. I'm sure the sun glass holder comes out but I haven't tried yet. Is it just clipped in like the center console?

Check to make sure the roof rack is tight. Many around here have solved their rattles by tightening the roof rack, even though they thought the rattle was coming from the sunroof or something similar.

Guessing you already tired it but the sunshade on our vehicle makes pretty much the same sound when it's not completely shut (even a 1/4 inch).

Anyway, the console is easy to get off.

I had a rattle that I chased for about a month (drove me effing nuts) I thought it was in the sunglasses holder and come to find out a screw was loose in the glove box.

I have the rattle too. I've had Toyota check it out and discovered a divot in the track where the sunroof rollers sit in the closed position. Try driving with the sunroof slightly open. If the rattle goes away, then it's the rollers that wore an indentation in the track. It's small, but noticeable as your head is usually inches from the noise.

Regarding a fix... Haven't found one yet aside from replacing the tracks ($$$).

Yup, I have the same rattle. Hopefully I'll find some time this weekend to check it out. I'll let you guys know what I find out...
