Rattling sound

Hi,

I'm new owner of T4R, 1989, 22 re, third owner, with 260 000 km on the clock. Previous owner did quite good job on maintaining it but I don't know much about service history.

Engine runs fine when idle, inside gears but when I shift to lower gear and find myself around 2600-2700 rpm or more, without pushing the pedal, rattling sound begins. It stops below 2500 rpm.

Now, I'm layman about that stuff and since I attacked home budget just by buying this beautiful car, now scared about possible outcome and repair if necessary.

Does somebody have any rough idea about it.
Many thanks,

Robert

Welcome to the forum, Robert! The problem with diagnosing rattles is you pretty much have to be right there next to the vehicle to find it--it will be hard for a forum to help on that. It may be something as simple as an exhaust heat shield loose--I would check all brackets and attachments to the engine and exhaust. Many times stuff will only rattle at certain frequencies, just like the door panels with a stereo, so you'll need to park it and have someone work the throttle while you dig around. Best of luck!

Thanks Bob,

Yes, I'm aware that solution will be found only with the help of a professional...
just hope that it's not going to be drama like chain replacement

or maybe there's nothing in particular. I use to, and still do, drive Lada Niva (small russian off road car) which have lots of noise of all kind, but for that one it's normal thing.
