Have you seen the 06 rav4. You can get a potent 6cyl engine, this thing should fly. All wheel drive pretty decent gas milage, should be a good second car for a family with a 4runner. I was going to get a Camry as a second car, the Rav4 may be my first choice.

RAV 4 didn't get to Canada yet, but as Toyota information, it seems to be a nice combination of a Van, fast family car and some sort of all-weather vehicle. Definitely keep your 4Runner; RAV 4 won't be able make the same route as 4Runner in extreme condition. My 2c.

It is more like the size of the second generation 4Runner. It is definitely getting bigger. I would guess most of the owners will opt for the 4 cyl engine. I would think it is getting out of the cute-ute size and is now considered a real car, cross over SUV???

I had a '97 before my 4Runner. Obviously a bit older, but I loved the thing. They were more truck-like back then, but I was actually able to take it on some stock off road trails without any problems. You loose that with the new model, but for what you are looking for, I bet it would be great.

All that nice upgrade has its price...Plan on around 25-30K for a decently equipped Rav4.

Merry Christmas...

ive got a 98, and i love it, definately a step down or two from the 4runner, but a great little car, or suv. people dont realize that it actaully is not that bad of an off roader, the 1st gen at least. i would def reccomend the rav, but personally i dont like the new ones, just not a fan of the styling.

Dont do it. I took my runner in for some warranty work and the rental they gave me was a rav4. It was a real POS in my opinion. Noisy on the freeway and just didnt ride that nice. Of course i am used to my runner but still. That thing did do some wicked e-brake skids. I busted a 180 in the rain approaching a stop sign(with no one around). That was the only good thing i can say about it. If the new ones with the V6 are gonna be $25-30k you might as well buy a SR5 runner. Way nicer and in the same range. My .02

The SR5 might be close in the price range but it isn't close in the mpg range. I believe the EPA mpg rating is 21 city and 28 hwy. The redesigned 2006 Rav4 is a good vehicle. It uses the V6 engine from the Camary which makes 221 hp I believe. The new RAV4 is almost as big as the 4Runner 71.4 cubic feet vs 75.5 in the Runna. I would take out the third row seats if it was me purchasing it.

Let me say that I would STRONGLY consider the RAV4 as a second auto for a single man and/or family. I would choose it over the Jeep(Creep) Liberty, Saturn ugly-Vue, or anyone of the new GM's so called new school SUV's (Torrent-ibble or Equin-NOT).
The about is just my 1 1/2 cents and doesn't reflect the views of others here.

2006 Rav 4

6cyl engine: 269 horses/6200 rpm
246 footpounds of torque at 4700 rpm
7.5" of room under it, the 4runner is 9.5, not bad

epa milage 20/27 plus it tows 3500lbs
I think this thing will really move, this engine is fairly potent I would say. No 0-60 times that I know of yet.

They now have a Limited version with leather. I am getting this over the Camry. Needed a second car with decent gas milage. This could be the one I think. Just waiting to test it out. The 6cyl will not be available till February. Hope it's comfortable or the wife will want the Camry, no way she is touching the 4runner. I have a Lexus now, you would think she would not want to not crap it up, you know eating in it, crumbs every where, you know how woman are they just don't appreciate nice things. Selling the Lexus, sick and tired of paying a premium for every thing on it, plus only one dealer, getting a appointment is like seeing a busy doctor, screw that, no car is worth that kind of hassle.

It is kind of wierd, it actually uses a larger engine. No wimpy 3.0 V6 Camry engine for this sucker. I guess if your worried about mileage you will go with the 2.4 liter 4 cyl.

It uses a 3.5 liter V6.:awais:

yea i believe the v6 is out of the avalon, and the standard i4 is out of the camry.

Yes indeed the 06 Rav4 will stomp just about all SUVs out there, including the V8 4Runner. It's bigger, quicker, handles better then before and still gets 27 mpg. The 3.5 V6 is from the new Avalon and IS350 (IS is over 300hp). Should be a VERY interesting vehicle!
