RCI Offroad 4th Gen Build

After many years of procrastination and work on the 4runner, I am finally posting the progression of my build on here. Here is my 2004 V8 Sport 4runner the first time I started to document the build. At this point I had built a roof rack modeled somewhat after a gobi rack with KC daylighters on. I had also swapped out the factory tires for some slightly upsized dynapros.

From there I quickly decided I needed to ramp up the building so got a toytec lift, powdercoated my wheels and built a set of sliders to go on the t4r. I also built a hidden winch system in the factory bumper.

About 6 months later a made the big jump to 285/75/r17's. This required some trimming, a body mount chop, and a set of spydertrax. Shortly after that, I got the hookup from by brother (Josh - the owner of RCI Offroad) to build me this full set of custom colored skid plates!

Nice 4Runner! Dig the blue skids with the white.

I should probably get around to doing a build thread sometime myself. You may have inspired me tonight, or maybe tomorrow.....

Nice ride. Can you post some more pics of how you mounted your light bar in front of the vertical supports? What does it look like from the side?
 
Holy cow I think I saw you a couple months back on S-bound I-25 when I was driving back to Denver from FC!!! Nice build.

If I had known that was you I would have waved instead of just nodding my head. Ha!
 
After seeing some sweet setups on the trails, I decided I wanted a rooftop tent to mount on top of the rig so my wife and I could go camping anywhere rain or shine. Long story short, I ordered 5 tents from China, had to figure out customs, freight, etc. and after 5 mounts of logistics, I got my tent and sold the other 4. Not easy but it made the tent free which saved me about $3000. Here is the setup. Oh and I forgot that I built a rear tire carrier to hold my hi-lift and 33" tire. Ill post a pic later.

I don't have the specifics on it anymore. I got it through alibaba. It has waterproof/windproof canvas around, pistons to pop up the tent and provide tension. It came with that aluminum ladder and it has 2 channels underneath to allow flexibility on mounting locations. It came with a foam mattress but I replaced it because it was a little too firm and I wanted something a little thinner so that I could close it with all of the bedding and pillows inside.
 
What winch are you running? Any issues with maintenance on a synthetic rope with a hidden winch mount (BudBuilt?)?

How do you like your tent? There's a company named Black Fin Camper Box that is trying to sell the same tent you imported.
 
Thanks t-Rex. I built the hidden winch system in my bumper. Basically welded a plate on the inner frame member with some other small fabrication. It worked pretty well. I have a badlands 9000lb. I would imagine the bud built hidden would work great. Now I have swapped the hidden winch for a full front bumper my brother and I prototypes up. Loved the hidden setup though!
 
I totally love the tent! Ya I also saw a Kickstarter company trying to pitch this exact tent. Sketchy. I would recommend this type of tent for 4runners because it fits nicely on top and is wind,rain and hail resistant. Hard top roof is nice in a storm.
