RCI Rock Sliders on!`

Finally pulled the trigger and ordered some sliders. Great protection and a step up for the Cheif of House (COH). As expected order to delivery was fine. Not sure if powder coat survives any shipping. The folks at RCI told me the right paint for a touch-up and all was good.

I've seen people that use these as a "step" in place of running boards.... how do you feel they do in terms of usability for that aspect? And, they're not intended for that but wanted to get another opinion LOL

I've had them for about a year and they work just fine for a step. My wife was against getting rid of the running boards at first but even now she prefers the sliders. My 4 year old and 2 year old have no issues with using them to get into the vehicle.

Edit: I also added 1" thick grip tape in the spots I normally stand along the surface. The sliders do get slick when wet.

did not have any issues with quality, but totally agree on non existent customer service. Had multiple issues with the hardware, called dozens of times, sent emails, and left voice mails with no return.... said f it and purchased the hardware myself needed to do the install..... guess it could be worse good buddy of mine is on month 3 waiting for his pelfrey sliders....

Exact opposite experience I had. Got in contact with them for extra hardware and a missing front support assembly for my rear differential skid by sending a private message to [MENTION=90834]joshp767[/MENTION] (the vendor contact on this forum). He got back to me within a couple of hours (on a Sunday). Called him the next day and they had everything I needed shipped within 24hours. Super easy to work with and extremely helpful.
 
Seems like a lot of people here are discussing poor customer service/lead times. That was a huge factor to me when deciding on sliders. I probably contacted a half dozen places and was less than thrilled with many of their lead times.

I decided to go with BudBuilt sliders. I ordered them on a Monday and they arrived a week from that Friday. Less than 10 full business days. Their communication via email prior to and during was spot on as well.

I think quality-wise there are several very good slider manufacturers out there, and there's probably 5+ I'd be happy to put on my rig (RCI included) but I thought I would share my positive experience as there are so many issues with many manufacturers.

To be honest, it's a bit pathetic how poor the customer service and lead times are on so many manufacturers for 4Runner parts out there.

Look at Gobi for example. It's been the running joke for years how bad they are in terms of lead times and customer service. If they fixed that I'm sure they would get even more business than they already do (they'd get mine in a heart beat)

Heaven forbid some of these places hire an extra person or two, or get a little bit of stock built up on some of the items which they obviously won't have any issues selling..

Imagine how much faster some of these places would sell over the competition if they actually kept some of the more common products IN STOCK.

DON'T WORRY GOBI, IF YOU MAKE AN EXTRA 20 4RUNNER ROOF RACKS YOU WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM SELLING THEM.

Not difficult at all. I did it by myself with a couple of jackstands in about 2 hours. This was with taking my time (no directions as I bought them off of a member who never installed them) and ani-seizing every bolt. It is just line up and bolt on. You do have to work around the break lines but it was no big deal. If you have kdss it might be more complicated.

Budbuilts straight forward as well?
I'm looking for decent sliders ... but ones that I can use a step too. Wife will want them so it's easier to get in lol

Yep - my wife and I installed them in about 1-2 hrs tops (non KDSS). They thread into existing threaded holes in the frame. I used them as a lift point to jack my 4runner up and it sat on them for probably 12-18 hours and while they flexed, they didn't touch the 4Runner or lose any shape.

As for a step, I honestly think the only two companies that make a LEGIT step slider are Shrockworks and C4 Fabrications. The others are a bit "meh" if you want to step on the bar (sometimes I do, sometimes not)

Unfortunately C4 don't offer a powder coat option and I didn't really want to coat them myself or take them anywhere (call me lazy) plus they are pretty expensive.

Shrockworks just had a crappier lead time than most places.

I picked mines at RCI in Fort Collins last week during my way back from the US northwest.

For those living where it snow and salt on the roads, would you advise doing something special to prevent accumulation of humidity between the frame and sliders? I was thinking about cleaning the frame of course, but also adding a extra washer between the slider and the frame to create a small gap so air could circulate a bit and water could drop away.

Your thoughts?
