RCI Transfer case skid plate

Installing my skids today, but I'm having an issue with the cross member for the transfer case skid. Looks like I'm hitting the OEM gas tank skid and it's not allowing enough room to get the bolt in. Anyone else have this problem and how was it resolved? Bending the gas skid or removing it altogether? Last piece of the puzzle and I'll have everything on. I'll likely remove the gas skid and hit up RCI tomorrow if nobody has an answer.

I have the RCI skids, but including the gas tank, so I didn't face this issue. Went outside and checked my clearances and I can see why your having an issue. It appears there is enough space around the gas tank to pound the factory skid a little if its just a small amount of space you need. I would call RCI and get their input.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I only like a 1mm. it's just barely off so if there's room behind the stock skid I might try just smacking it with a mallet a couple times and see if that's enough to force it. Really don't feel like spending the money on a gas skid right now.
 
That was a royal pain in the ass. What I ended up doing was loosening the gas tank skid bolts, then wedged the bottle jack between the exhaust and the cross member and forced it over enough to get the bolt in. Pretty sure I cross threaded because that thing was a ***** to crank in.
 
If I remember right, I had a bracket in them spots. I grinded the lips flat. Then again, I was one of the first ginnie pigs when his products was just coming out.

Had the same problem with the bolt, file the tip of the bolt smaller, and applied pressure while re bolting.
 
I had the same exact problem. Since I was nearby, I went back to Josh's shop and let him take a look, and in the end it just took a few well-placed hits with a hammer on the lip of the factory gas tank skid to get it to fit up just fine. There's a good amount of space behind that lip so no risk of hurting anything as long as you don't go nuts hitting it.
 
Yeah, it's in there solid now. God forbid I ever need to remove that cross member, I'm not sure that bolt is coming out without snapping the head off.

This is good for anyone else that has the problem as I didn't really find anything on Google about it. I did see that there are tabs holding the gas tank skid in place and if those are ground down it would probably allow for more play to make everything squeeze in.

Do you have all the skid plates except for the gas tank one? I have just the engine skid that's awaiting install. I guess my question is do I need the rest (trans and transfer case) for the engine to fit properly? If so, looks like I'll end up where you were on your install

I have the filler, front skid, trans skid, and transfer skid. You don't need the rest just for the front skid, all the hardware is there to fit it.

Okay cool. Eventually I'd like to get the rest but I got the filler plate and engine skid for cheap and wanted to get them mounted before winter

All I have mounted up right now is the engine skid. Got some help from a buddy who has a Jeep.:tape2:

Aloha [MENTION=123332]Drunner97[/MENTION] . . . do you (or anyone reading this post) happen to have the installation instructions/parts list for the RCI T-case skid? Cleaned out the garage a couple weeks ago and think that the instructions and bolts were tossed. . . really just wanna make sure I get the right hardware. . .

I've been creeping the SoCal forum. Def looking forward to a run soon!!!
I'm a noob so definitely want to run with some experienced and patient wheelers in the area.
 
Thank you all for the info, installing today and running into the gas tank skid problem. Going to try and smack it with a mallet a few times.
 
Mine has the same problem of RCI transfer case cross member interferes with oem fuel tank skid. The bolt hole is misaligned by about 5mm
