Re: Clear Paint protection

Hi Guys,

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am considering on applying a Clear Film paint protection for my '10 SR5 which should cover the the front bumber, fenders, hood and side mirrors, the shop is charging me $630 USD, The brand that they will be using is Autobahn.

My question is 1. is the amount right around the ave. price?
2. Any Cons: ex. damage the paint when I take it off?, will the Film yellow over time, etc..btw the SR5 rocks!.

My local shop used Llumar on mine and is backed by a 7 year warranty. I'd check and make sure what kind of warranty that autobahn stuff comes with. I paid 525 for mine to be done.
Also, as far as the yellowing goes, I've only ever heard of the stuff yellowing on a white vehicle. And the paint should be perfect if you ever remove it. Its very similar to the vinyl stuff that alot of people have covered their hoods with.

The only con that I believe I'll see over time is that wax will get into some of the creases of the bumper where they had to cut it to get it fold right. So just be careful with it when waxing and washing. Also, the waxing will make it last longer.

I have the 3M product on mine. Very glad I did it as my bumper etc are immaculate as opposed to my wife's car which is covered in stone chips. I would recommend anyone get it or a similar product. 3M has no issues with being removed, not sure about your product.

My 2011 LE came with the hood, mirrors, door handles, door edges and lower rear fenders already done. I had 3M ScotchGuard protector added to the full bumper, A-pillars, in front of the sunroof, headlights, and fog lights, with "love bug" season in full swing where I live, it's a real saver in cleaning those buggers off. I believe what I had done cost $363. :hatsoff:

our LE came with the OEM 299$ package and it was recently taken off at the dealership because it was discoloring badly, shows up a lot on the BWP, they are looking into warranty replacement or possibly another company. I have used XPEL many many times in the past with flawless results, they claim their film is head and shoulders above 3m's for prevention of decoloration and such....

Here in the Seattle area, I know a guy that installs them for $500. It's 3M material that covers the full front end. Including the mirrors, 1/3 of the hood, fenders and all lights.

I have the lumar on my wifes 11 SR5 and I also have the 3m on my 11 X5. I also have it on my 06 A4 (that I still need to sell) but can't remember the brand. The one thing I've noticed about all 3 is that bugs are a ***** to get off. But it's definitely worth it for paint protection. Someone got the whole front bumper of my X5 when it was 2 weeks old ripped the bra from one end to the other. No paint work needed. The bra did it's job, just had to replace it. IMO I like the 3M product the best.
