How much does it cost to get my 02 runner re-geared, what all exactly has to be changed...the gearing in the diffs?, i take it you have to take it to a shop to do it right? i was thinking about doing 4.88s cuz im only running 295/70/17 and would like to get a little more gearing power, also if i did a SC would it helped to be re geared or would the SC help me to not have to be re-gear. Sorry for so many questions, Thanks!

The supercharger will help get the power back that you lost with the larger tires. I have a similar setup to yours where I went from stock to lifted and 285/70/17's and felt like I lost a bit of "pep." I got the supercharger and it feels the same as stock now if not a little quicker. I'm thinking about a regear to 4.88's as well to move that powerband back to normal. If I were to do it again, I would have gone with gears first, but I found an unbelievable deal on the supercharger that I couldn't pass it up. I've debated getting a used 4.88 third for the rear just to see how it feels and then have the front regeared to match. Let me know what you decide with yours.

The parts alone are probably around $500 and you're probably looking at around a grand for labor. Look into East Coast Gears, I don't have any expirience with them but people on here seem to like them.

you can set diffs up in a garage, but you need to know exactly what your doing. You could get by with just the gears and a pinion seal, so for about $350 -$400 but thats doing it your self. You probably dont have a press and the gauge to test the backlash. SO you should pay to have it done. I think F&R open diffs are about $1100 from ecgs

Thats a good point too. I would replace the pinion bearings too though. All you have to do is re-use the pinion shim for the pinion depth and the rear carrier bearings are adjustable so the back lash is really easy to set. The front just uses shims for the back lash. It's really easy to do but you do have to have some patience and a press.

Not trying to be a ****, but this subject has been beat to death in multiple threads. A quick search would have turned up about a dozen threads containing exhaustive information and debate. Rather then relying on all the information to resurface on this thread, you should search. There are also threads that cover the SC and 7th injector.

the SC will get you back some power that the weight of your larger tires and some of your other mods have stolen from you, but they wont make up for the lack of gearing. while yes you will be able to accelerate probably just as fast as a stock rig, the added stress on your auto trans or clutch depending on what you have will soon show itself. regear its worth it, id dump the $$$ into regearing and lockers long before id buy an SC it will be cheaper too
