re-programing for bigger tires ?

Hey out there: I'm new to these 4 Runners ,but Wanted to know if I go one size bigger 05 ( 265/70/17' )on my 05 ,Wont the computer need to be reprogramed for the speedo and other functions to calculate correctly.

That's not a huge difference. It'll only be off like 2%

According to the Miata Tire Size calculator - your speedo would read 3.4% slow so would read 60 when actually doing 62 MPH. No problem there - but if you were doing 75 it would read 80.5 MPH which might just get you a hefty ticket (especially in VA with the reacent revenu generating "driver abuse" fees. Used to be you changed speed drive gear size --- surely everything tied in now with computers its a "simple" code change.

i wnated to fit larger tyres on my surf too but when i found out that 265/70R17's (803mm) are 3.48% larger than the 265/65R17's (776mm) i had on already i decided to back away from teh idea as nobody here would have any idea as to how to reprogram the speedo.

then again nobody actually follows the speed limit here, and it's not really enforced either.

not worth a ticket, you're better off fitting 275/65R17's (789mm or 1.68% larger than stock) they'll fit in the spare wheel well too.
