RE: Steering Racks on Lifted 4Runners
Our dealership like many others have offered "off-road" packages on our '07+ Tundras. Basically its just a 4-6 inch lift with 34's or larger on some rims. Toyota HQ has asked the dealerships to stop doing this because there are a large number of these Tundras coming back with premature steering rack failures due to the lift causing stress on the tie rod boots (not the CVs) and Toyota will no longer be warranting these dealer installed packages because it violates factory warranty.
It just occured to me today while this popped up again in my head, "hey, what about the 4Runners? How much stress are we putting on our steering racks with these 3" lifts?"
So if anyone on the forum has had issues with their steering racks failing or becoming damages post lift, could you please list the following:
-Trim
-2WD/4WD
-Engine
-Type of lift & total height lifted.
-Mileage after lift that rack needed repair.
Just trying to collect data on this as I really couldn't find an answer for myself. Thanks in advance! and rock on! :guitar3:
