2000 is a good budget, you might not need Springs. Should be able to get away with shocks and a spacer lift. That should be less than 400 to 500

I also have a V8 with just under 70,000, so up front I went with 5100s and tacoma coils, plus a 1/4 inch top plate spacer. Rear is FJ coils and 5100s. Lift is 4/2. Ride is perfect. I didn't have XReas, but my og stock shocks were toast and mushy. It's only been a few weeks, so I can't give you a long term update, but I love it so far. By the time it needs ball joints or whatever, that'll be the next upgrade?!?

4 Shocks-- $340ish?
Taco front springs-- $50(Craigslist find)
FJ rear coils and spacers-- free, friend just upgraded his FJ
Wheelers 1/4 inch front upper spacers-- $20

I also have a 2008 Sport Edition 4WD w/ V8. I keyed in on a couple things you stated.
1. Quality of ride of the highest importance…
2. Budget isn't really an issue, would like to keep the suspension under $2000 if possible though but could care less if it costs a bit more.
An Icon Stage 1 System will fit the bill perfectly!
ICON Stage 1 System for 2003-2009 4Runner If you're not blasting through the desert for extended periods of time, they would be perfect for what you want. If you are desert running then spend a little more and get resi's. Stay under 3" of lift in the front and there will be no increase of wear and tear on your other components merely from the lift. If you look at your CV angles right now you'll see that they aren't completely level. They should have a negative angle (mine did). By lifting 2-3" all you're doing is changing the angle to a positive angle. The angle of the CV joint relative to the differential won't be that much different. If you're really worried about it then stay around 2". Over 3" then yes, you'll be looking at wear issues like CV joints, CV boots, ball joints…. The beauty of adjustable coil overs (any brand) is you can always adjust them on the vehicle. Too high or too low, one side not the same height as the other? All you need is a realignment afterwards.
Now on to the brand. I can't speak for other brands since the only experience I've had on the 4runner is with the OEM Xreas and my current Icons. I replaced my Xreas at 5k and they were working properly at the time. The difference in ride between oem and Icons is night and day. The Xreas was soft and mushy with understeer going into turns. I never really liked them from day one. The Icons are a firm and very comfortable ride. They're extremely compliant over bumps and not stiff at all. Handles much better then oem. No problems with leakage and when the time comes, they're rebuildable.
Any regrets? Not a bit. Good luck and post pics!
