Hi everyone,

Thanks to all members for such awesome information about the 4th gen. TR4! It's time for me to replace my stock tires on an '08 Urban Runner with XREAS. While replacing the tires, I'd like to install the Daystar 2.5/1.5 leveling kit. I live in Delaware. Does anyone know of a reputable business that installs Daystar kits on TR4s with XREAS in DE, MD, PA, or NJ? Also, will BF Goodrich AT tires (265-65-18) fit once the truck is lifted?

Once again, thanks for all of your help!!!

I totally think you can do the install on your own. You need a few basic tools, you need to rent a ball joint (pitman arm) puller from AutoZone and while you are there, get the spring compressors...they helped me even though not required. There is a ton of info on this site to help with the install. The back is silly easy and the front takes patience and maybe a buddy to help hold stuff.

Don’t be afraid of the install, just take your time and be thorough!

Was your front install part preload part topmount?

I thought I read on JA's site that this kit changed recently to full topmount. In which case you wouldn't have to compress the spring, correct? I'm interested too as I will be getting an 04 4RNR soon and wanting this same kit. I have lowered cars before and used spring compressors, but it would be nice to not have to and not lose any ride comfort.

Seriously, a lot of people on this forum will tell you to install lifts yourself, but unless you've got a nice garage/workshop and a bunch of tools, I wouldn't mess with it. I got mine installed at a shop down here, and I don't remember it costing very much. Make sure you keep them honest though, and don't let them charge you for more labor than they should. Plus, if you have a professional shop do the installation, you will be able to rest assured that it was done by a professional and not a hobbyist. Just call around to some shops and see who's got the best quote on the installation.

There are 2 kits DS kits available , but only from select dealers who buy in bulk and mix and match parts.

The older style kit (topout/preload/rear spacer) (see my ad in classifieds)

The newer kit Topout and rear spacer. Eliminates the preload spacer for easier install.

My lift was the new style, topout only. I dont have a fancy garage and I dont have a special arsenal of tools. I rented the 2 specialty tools from autozone (Ball Joint Puller/Spring Compressor) I didnt need the compressor but it made it easier to get the bottom of the shock back into the mount. If I lived closer I would help you because the job is really easy, but I dont...sorry. I would not blame you if you wanted to have someone else do the install, but as JA stated, I didn't trust anyone with my XREAS. I think besides the lugs there is only maybe 8-10 nuts/bolts that needs to be removed. There is 2 holding the brake line/speed sense wire. One holding the XREAS line. The castle nut at the ball joint. 2 at the link for the sway bar, 1 at the lower shock mount and 3 at the upper. I think that is it. The rest takes some wiggling and manuvering but with an extra set of hands is no big deal. The back is only the lugs and the lower shock mount, I would skip removing the panhard bar, but if you do it may give you a bit more room.

Goodluck!
