Real purpose of the Hood Air Deflector

Here's a pic that illustrates the real purpose of the Hood Air Deflector, which is the air intake for the intercooler in the Turbo Diesel Direct Injection engine. (Not available in the U.S.).

The diesel engine gives me 23/30 mpg (City/Highway).

Besides, everywhere else except in the U.S., Diesel fuel is 10% to 25% cheaper than gasoline.

Torque:260 ft-lb

It's a very smooth engine, and thanks to the direct injection, it's not smokey like the usual diesel engines.

Most people who ride with me don't even notice it's a Diesel.

I wish they offered the diesel here. Toyota USA will probably go hybrid before they go diesel. Jeep now offers a diesel in the Liberty.

Wow! That's a nice pic of your V8 engine. I took mine with my phone at work.
I'll try to take a nicer pic with my digital camera at home.

What's VSC system?
My 4Runner has the 4 speed tranny. Remember, only the V8 comes with 5 speed, and since Diesel is even slower, there's no reason for a 5 speed.

This is a pic of my speedometer at maximum speed (160kph=100mph and 3,300rpm), so at 60mph it revs really low.

Thanks for posting this!! I were very curious as to what the diesel motor looked like....that top mount IC fed by the hood scoop is just too cool! Why don't we get neat stuff like this in NorthAm

Any idea how this turbo diesel responds to mods?? Many diesels see HUGE power (well, mostly torque) gains from a few simple fuel system and engine programming mods.....Also, can you order with a manual transmission, or just the auto?

Nope, my 4Runner has ABS, EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), and an emergency brake booster, but that's it. No electronic traction, stability control, Downhill Asist Control, Hill Start Assist Control, etc.

It's a "Limited" because it has the following improvements over the SR5: leather seats, power seats, sunroof, painted bumpers and lights on the doorsteps

I'm not even sure if it has a Torsen Differential. How can I tell?

I could have gotten the U.S. version, but gasoline is so expensive ($3.30/gal) here that the Diesel engine is a blessing.
