IMHO the floor mats have been the scapegoat for a bigger issue or something they haven't been able to figure out. My size 11-1/2 shoes don't have enough clearance between the gas and brake pedals in this vehicle. I've had to modify my foot position. The Toyota engineers must have smaller feet.

i refused to have the service done and signed a waiver at the stealership. i know how to stop my car if something happens and i don't need a hack job to fix something that isn't broken.
regarding the comment about limited space, i agree with ya... depending on which shoe i have on, i have to take my right one off or else i get stuck down there. dang small Japanese feet.

FYI, if you bring your truck into a dealership for service, they will do the recall unless you specifically tell them not to. I found this out the hard way when I had a tranny flush done couple of weeks ago. I was a little bit annoyed, but the service manager was kind enough to track down one of the old pedals for me, no charge.
That recall has been out for a while. They are required to make several attempts to contact people I am guessing you didn't get it which is why they contacted you again.
I didn't get mine done. There is no way a properly installed floor mat will even come close to hitting the gas pedal. Besides, my gas pedal never hits the floorboard anyway.

I have the same problem with a size 13. Japanese people must have really small feet :lookout:

I had mine done on the T4R a year ago. New floor mat and and a new acceleration pedal.
Last dealership visit the service guy mentioned it to me and if I wanted to get it done. I asked his opinion, and he said it wasn't necessary. Because I was aware of the reason for the recall, probably as many of you are, I chuckled and said is this basically a hack job of my pedal because there have been cases where people aren't positioning their floor mats correctly. He said yes.

If I remember correctly, the US gov put Toyota through the ringer in their congressional inquiry and found that Toyota basically wasnt responsible for any of these idiots that either couldnt position their floormats or intentionally pressed the gas pedal down to become the next big story.
As far as I'm concerned it was a bunch of people that saw dollar signs and lied or were too stupid to recognize their own faults. In fact, I think data was pulled from a majority of these cases and found that the accelerator pedal was never let off of. It's too bad we legislate the stupid from being bred out of existence, opposite of Darwin's theory....Idiocracy is becoming a documentary.

I just got, what I am pretty sure was the 4th notice for this recall. And, I intend to ignore it like the last three. I have had aftermarket winter mats in my '03 since it was new, and have never had a problem with interference with the gas pedal. And, like others have said, if you don't know how to stop a 'run-away' vehicle without hitting something, maybe you should see if you qualify for handicap status. (no disrespect intended toward those who legitimately meet the need for the classification)

That's actually the Toyota issued fix, they sent out metal templates and instructions and they have to be cut within 1mm of the template or you have ruined the pedal.
In all honesty though? Its not worth anything, its just so Toyota can cover themselves from more stupid people. Get the waiver from your service writer and just decline the service, they should not be doing it without your consent anyways.

It's a pedal cut and a reprogramming of the ecu....so if you touch the brake you can't accelerate anymore. Just got new floormats out of the deal so I'm not bad about it. They also mentioned a new recall with the fuel pressure dampener on my 03 v6 4x4 I haven't done that one yet since it's more of an all day type thing...
