What is the best way to tighten the top nut since the shaft spins? I was thinking vice grips w/leather pad as high up as possible, but there myst be a better way.

There is an Allen key on top of the stud. Very poor design and you pretty much have to be a contortionist to get up in there. I replaced them out of frustration when the bushings deteriorated. Ok shocks though...emphasis on ok.

Put a box end wrench on the nut while using an ratcheting allen bit socket, preferably a 1/4" drive. Turn the ratchet, not the wrench. The wrench should wedge against something up there and you can turn the ratchet (or you can turn the shock boot)
