Rear air supension problems?

Anyone with the rear SLS have problems? My 05 only has 1400 miles and yesterday I was driving home when only 1 mile from my house the rear end was sagging and bumps really hurt when I hit them. I could tell the rear was really low with the hood tilting upwards. The dash said the suspension was in N mode but no way. I made it home, turned everything off and then started it back up again and so far it's worked Ok but very weird. I've heard of this happening on Disco2s but not on the 4Runner. Anyone else experience this?

I thought that the air system was an assist to the standard suspension. It would only pump up if there was extra weight in the back.

If it failed you should have had the standard ride as before. I can't understand why your hood was tilting upwards.
(the scoop will give this effect to some drivers though)

The rear air suspension completely replaces the coil springs so my guess is that something happened for it to read a fault code or something and completely deflate, thus effectively having no springs in the back and causing the front to be higher than the rear. It hasn't happened again but I'm keeping my eye on it.

I had the dealer switch over my tires a few weeks ago, and when going over a bump, it felt like there was no suspension action. I used the air suspension control to raise and lower a few times, and now have a smoother ride without bottoming out. I notice that to raise the vehicle, the unit is jerky, but seem ok on the downward descent. I never really used the system beforehand - is the jerky upward movement normal (I couldn't find an answer by searching)?

The air suspension on my truck hasn't given me a problem, but my parents had the same problem on their 2005. The dealer started off by first recalibrating the sensors, second they replaced the sensors, and third they replaced the computer board that controls the air suspension. I drove the car to the dealer the third time and I honestly thought I was riding on rocks the entire way there. The computer board seemed to do the trick. It is weird that this happened after only 1400 miles though.

So your 4runner w/ air suspension has no rear coil springs??? Is it an aftermarket install?

No, it is the factory installed option.

Sorry, I was asking ssmathis who said his airbags completely replace the coil springs. The factory airbags have an airbag installed under/in the coils.
