Rear Anti-lock

I have a 95 4runner and the rear anti-lock warning light comes on after driving for about 10-20 minuets. Never comes on first thing.. only after I've been driving. Any ideas?

BTW- I JUST had the master cylinder replaced due to a crack. Prior to having the master cylinder replaced my emergency brake light was randomly coming on. The e-brake light is fixed but now this. Could it be connected? Seems like one thing is repaired and something else fails.....

The speed sensor when out on a rear wheel on my '93 causing the ABS light to appear. It happened around 120K miles. It was not a cheap fix from the dealer.

I'm a little over 120k. As mentioned, I just had a new master cylinder, pitman arm and idler arm installed. I wonder if the speed sensor (or something else) was affected by this work.....

well....ABS typically doesnt use a speed sensor. It uses ABS sensors that are mounted on the hub, and they usually are magnetic and pickup pulses from the rotor/hub as it turns. I bet an ABS sensor in the rear has simply failed and needs replacing. Im not saying its cheap, but its not typically a bank breaker either. Keep in mind, when an ABS light is on, the ABS system is disabled. Its a precautionary measure.

Avee,
Any update on your ABS light??

I have the same problem with my 95 T4R. I had a rear brake line go and needed a new line. I bled the ABS unit and both lines but the light is still on. I read the codes and it stated that it was the speed sensor. I never touched the speed sensor. I don't think there are any other sensors on the rear end.

Could it just need the brake shoes adjusted tighter?

Looking for an easy fix,
Lon

Hi Lon,

I don't have an update yet... I'm taking it to my mechanic next week. I'll definitely let you know what he says.

I'm not very mechanically inclined but based on my research and what other posters have said, I think it's the ABS sensor. I read that failure of the ABS speed sensor and ABS relay is a common problem on the 94 and 95 T4R.

Here are a couple of links I came across regarding this problem:

Avee,
Thanks for the links. It sure looks like it might be that speed sensor. Let me know what happens with your mechanic. I would appreciate it too if you could let me know cost and find out how to remove it. I hope it doesn't cost much and is easy to do......

Thanks again,
Lon

Drake3...thanks for the info..

Avee...any update???

I adjusted the rear brakes and ...the anti-brake light stil comes on.... I hate it. The truck runs great and stops with no problems. I'm guessing it's the speed sensor for sure now.

Anyone else have any ideas???

Thanks,
Lon
