Rear Axle Reassemble- Play in Backing Plate

Been fixing leaking rear axle and am reassembling. Have installed Outer Shaft Oil Seal, placed backing plate over axle and pressed on the wheel bearing as far as it will go. However, there is some play in the backing plate. Is this normal and have I gone wrong somewhere? Would love to hear some comments before I press on the remaining retainers, ABS ring etc.
