Rear Axle Seal Help

Ive got my axle apart ready to install the new seal when I open the box and my new seal from inchworm has a metal flange on it? Can anyone tell me if this will actually fit my application 97 4runner, I fairly certain were not supposed to drive crap into the axle housing, so Ill await what you guys say. What the hell is the flange for? It is too big for my housing!?!? Anyone?

Thats a Marlin Crawler seal kit and it is quality. The seal with the flange is Marlin's heavy duty design, used them in my son's 94 pu with no problems .Does your truck have ABS? I wonder if that kit will work for both trucks and 4runners.

yes I have ABS, does that change the size of the seal?

I looked on Marlins website and it shows another seal for axles with ABS.

Cant believe i missed that detail! Looks like I'm going to the stealer-ship tomorrow morning.

Am I crazy or does the website say 79-99 housing? I didnt see a selection for ABS vs Non ABS. Am I the first person to miss this?

The dealership is cheap for this seal and they are best to go with from my research. Search drcoffee for his write up and video. I used the dealership seals.
