You can make this tool with an old axle housing for cheaper than that tool. People have done that before too. Just another option.
 
Sorry for taking so long yes I've done wheel bearings before i just cut them off. Its the fastest way if you aren't reusing anything.
 
Exactly - I did this on a siezed front bearing in college on my Vega (don't judge- it never broke on me). It took a long time. The steel is very tough.

I was asking if you have ever cut the bearing out of a 3rd Gen T4R. I don't see how this would be at all possible without destroying the surrounding casting.
 
No you can't cut the bearings out. Some people cut the retainers and ABS rotor off, which you don't have to do, (and risk damaging the shaft) The bearing itself comes out once the two retainers, ABS rotor, and snap ring are removed. It is not pressed into the housing.

Been messing with my rear axle for a couple days now. Axle was bent, so I bought a new one. New bearings, seals, etc. Was trying to find a shop to press everything off the old one, but if the bearing isn't pressed on, it seems that i should be able to just cut off the ABS ring and the two retainers. Then once I remove the snap ring Ill be able to slide the bearing off the axle, pop the old bearing out of the housing, put the new one on, and just have the shop press the new retainers and ABS ring into place. Much easier I think. However, it would be even easier if i could just get the housing/break backer plate assembly off without even cutting anything. Is that possible? I suppose it isn't because of the axle and hub being one piece.?

The axle is separate from the hub. The only way to separate them is to first remove the retainers, snap ring and ABS rotor. Then, as I said, the bearing comes out of the hub sort of easily by pushing the axle through to the hub. I still don't advise cutting the retainers or the ABS ring. If you HAVE to do it this way then don't cut all the way through (almost all the way) and take a cold chisel and "crack" the metal and it will slide off.
