Rear bounce

I've searched for a similar topic but really didn't have much luck. I've got a 2wd 2000 runner that I just replaced the rear coils with OEM. The shocks are the cheapest Monroe shocks you could buy (yellow).

So my question is, do I need new shocks? Shocks are the only thing I can think of that would be causing it.

Thanks for any help I can get. I found a good deal on some shocks so I'm ready to buy.

stiffer shock would likely be the best course of action.
I had blown shocks in the back and it was giving me quite an abrasive bounce in the back. I replaced springs and shocks and I choose Billsteins. It certainly helped in my situation.
What are the miles on the shocks you have now?

The miles on them now is probably around 20k-25k. I was low on cash when I replaced them so I went with the cheapest ones. I had the same bounce before i put the Monroes on but it seemed like it was a little better than before.

I think a stiffer valve shock may help. However, I'm a broke college kid, and understand money being tight. You could check cheaper things first. Make sure everything in the rear is torqued properly, maybe check any bushing...I would think that monroes' would last longer then that. They are cheap, but monroe is a fairly well known company and is often an OEM replacement. You could try new tockico's(to lazy to check spelling?), I know they are fairly cheap, and they are OEM. Still though, It would be odd for monroes' to go that quickly I would think.

OK I'll look into those cheaper ones. If I can find a good deal on Rancho I might try those. Are they any good? My bounce didn't change much after I put the yellow Monroe shocks on. I just figured it was my coils since the shocks didn't change anything.

My '01 started bouncing terribly back in October... came to find out the panhard bar had come disconnected from the axle! I must not have tightened the bolt down enough when I did my rear suspension; but when I fixed that, the bouncing was gone.

Check how far you are off of the bumpstops.

Did you install new OEM springs or used? Was it bouncing with your old springs too or just the new ones?

Please define "bounce".
Is it a hard and harsh ride like you hit the bumpstop?
Or is it like the vehicle hits a bump and the rear keeps swimming up and down uncontrolled?
Or something else?

I'll check the bump stops today when I take my running boards off. The bounce was gone for almost 2 days after I put the new OEM coils on. Then it returned to the same bounce.

I actually haven't felt it hit the bumpstop since the new coils. I felt it all the time with the old coils. I can put my foot on the hitch and make the rear bounce with little effort if that helps.

That sounds like your shocks then. You don't have to spend a fortune on new shocks either. But, I kind of subscribe to the "do it once and do it right" theory. I'd go with Bilsteins if I were you. Even just the regular Bilstein HD's will work well for you I think.
