Rear brake question

Hey guys so I have a 2011 trail edition, I have 105k miles on it. I've changed brake pads on it 3times already. The 3rd time I purchased new rotors, cross drilled and slotted. I installed hawk light truck brake pads about 8 to 9 months ago.. took my truck for service. And they told me my rear pads only have 2mm left, my front are at 8mm. Isn't the front sposed to do most of the braking? My question for you is why is my rear pads wearing so much faster almost twice as fast as my front.
Could it be a manufacturer defect?
Any thoughts would be great..

Most everyone here gets about 70K out of their OEM Pads and they seem to wear pretty equal front to rear with just a bit of front bias. I don't know why you only get 30K unless somebody was taking you for a ride. Same or different shops? Do you check them yourself or take someones word for it?

Always double check the work and confirm issues with your own eyes. It is very sad but now a "normal" thing in todays age to be taken advantage of. Brake pads should wear realitivly even. I called out one service tech as i was told i only had 3mm left on all pads. seems the tech didnt bother to look at the brakes because he missed the fact that I had just changed the rotors and pads a few hours before. Seems you cant trust anyone anymore. If it is that worn then there is an issue.

I only got 30,000 on my OEM pads. Could jave gotten another 5000 but was easier to replace before it got cold amd snowy. I chalked the higher pad wear to the wonderful stop n go traffic in NY.

Man, that is nuts!

I checked my original pads the other day and I'm pretty confident that I'll get 100,000 miles out of them. I'm just about at 70,000 now and there is tons of pad left.
I tow a boat with no trailer brakes A LOT too, so that's very impressive to me.

Do you drive in traffic daily? Is it possible your left foot is resting on the brake sometimes?

If not, I agree with the others that your mechanic is taking you for a ride...

All the brake work I did my self. I'll have to find time to check..

That doesn't seem right. I just did brakes all way round got 95k out of OEM. Only thing I can think of is the hardware is not allowing pads to disengage after pressure is released. But that is rare. Maybe clean everything really well when you inspect.

So the thing that's bugging me is that the front is basically new and the rear wore. I'll double check them just to be sure but. Lets just say they are at 2mm. Why would my rear do more braking them the front? The pads I have are hawk brand. I would think they are a decent brand and the set before those were ebc. Anyone know if bremdo has pads for 5th gens? :girl:

My friend are you not reading the posts? OEM pads typically get over 70K with no issue. Aftermarket pads do not last as long. Do you do all city driving? As far as rears wearing so fast compared to fronts I have no idea as changing bias requires a lot of mods. Take it to a qualified mechanic.

if those are very aggressive, OR soft pads, they very easily could wear out before the fronts.


with modern ABS, and rear discs, they are able to bias much MORE braking to the rear than they were able to in the past. its almost 50% now, compared to the 70/30 it was before.

go back to standard pads and rotors, I bet they last longer, and work just as well.

2015 t4r limited same issue 42629 miles

Just took it in for service to Toyota of Clovis, they supposedly measure the pads each time and the wear has been pretty even. Today the fronts are at 6 mm and the rears changed -2.5 mm to 3.5 mm.
Very confusing to me how the rears would drop that much in 5000 miles. The dealership had 20 different b/s excuses, none valid.
Had a nail in a tire so I went to my local tire guy and while it was off I checked. Pretty thin!!!!!!
Its the wifes ride and she is very easy on it, she put 180,000 miles on her 2002 Silverado before I did a brake job.
I will do the rear brakes 1 time and if the problem is still there, it will belong to someone else fast!
