Rear Bumper Build

Here are some of the rough draft CAD designs for the rear tube and gussets. This is not a complete design. I'm going to finish the side panels with a paperboard mock up. All material being used will be 3/16" steel. 2x3" angle iron is being used to make up the gussets and the rear tube is a 6x4" rectangle. I do have to make the bumper somewhat larger due to the 1" body lift.

It'll be solid that's for sure. My personal preference, and I'm not an engineer, but I would add a brace from the outside of the angle iron towards the outside edge of the tube steel to help support the outside wings of it.

Don't worry there will be plenty of supports! This was just a quick throw together since I couldn't model these pieces out of paperboard.

Here are some of the first pieces. I loosened the hitch and wedged one of the supports in between it and the frame to hold it in place and I rested the tube on it for mock up and its fitting perfect so far.

Very cool, I will be watching this as I will be doing the same thing soon and was thinking of a similar design. I just need work to slow down so the welding shop is opened up a bit. After welding a 50 hour week the last thing I want to do is go in on Sunday lol

Got the gussets tacked and I have it roughly laid out. Now I need to drill it into the frame and get it situated.

Another pic of the gusset. I'm trying to keep this mostly as a picture thread since that is what people want. It looks a lot better now that the hitch is gone too.

Exactly what I would like to do only I'm going to try and make some sides in there. Looks great man! Gives me hope for mine.
