Rear bumper + built-in bike rack???

Due to a parking lot fender bender I get to replace the rear bumper on my 2016 limited. I've looked at all the rear bumper threads and thousands of pictures on google image search. I can't find an after market rear bumper with a built-in mountain bike rack. Does this exist?

So I'm looking for an after market rear bumper with a rack for one or two mountain bikes. All I see is bumpers with a place to mount the spare tire, but nothing designed to carry a mountain bike. This seems like a no-brainer to me. What am I missing out there.


Also looking for a shop in Ventura Country or north LA County that could do an install (assuming I ever find the bumper).

Can’t say ive seen a built in mtb rack in a rear bumper before. And ive seen alot of 4runner pictures lol. Whats wrong with just a hitch rack?

I get to post my one and only 4runner mod haha

You’ll just have to make your custom bumper, more custom.

I’d check out an older Mini Countryman/BMW X5 bike rack. Would be super easy to mod the bumper to work for one of those. Typically can find them used for cheap.
 
There's nothing "wrong" with a hitch rack.

But as long as I'm replacing the bumper, why not include a built in bike rack? That seems like a win-win.
 
It took me three years to come up with this setup. It works perfectly for our ideal trips where we mountain bike in the morning and wheel in the afternoon to our favorite dispersed campsites. I’ve done advanced technical trails with bikes strapped on the back with no problem. It’s the highest clearance setup I’ve seen thus far. CBI rear with dual swing outs w/optional hitch receiver welded on + 1up HD bike rack. Best part is that it swings away when I am at camp!

Yes. That's what I'm talking about. Did you weld the bike rack on yourself or did they custom fabricate it for you? I want to replace the tire carrier with a mountain bike carrier.

I don't need the high clearance since the trails I'm on are not that technical, mostly dirt roads.

CBI welded it onto the spare tire swing out when I ordered the bumper. If you arent going to be slamming your rear bumper onto rock ledges it's not going to be worth the weight penalty (near 225lbs) of a full metal bumper. You would do just fine with a 1up rack mounted in your hitch.
 
I've got nothing to contribute, but I am curious why you would want to make it so you cannot remove the bike rack at any given time?

I worded that incorrectly. CBI welded a receiver hitch mount on the the tire swing out. If I'm not transporting bikes on a trip (a minority of the time) I remove the rack.
 
To OP, this may be an option if you want a swing out tire carrier without going full aftermarket replacement bumper. You could just have a shop repair/replace the stock bumper.

Curious with your setup what kind of MPG you're getting? How does the ride feel?

The addition of the rear bumper didn't have any meaningful impact on my gas mileage. Still hovering at about 13-15 mpg. The tires and front bumper on the other hand are probably the biggest fuel efficiency offenders.

My truck rides great but I'm running a very heavily sprung setup. 700lb coils on my front Icon CDCV coilovers and OME 899 (880lbs constant weight) coils in the rear.
 
4x4Labs can be had with a bike rack. Any decent shop could modify the swingouts on a bumper to integrate a bike rack as well.
 
I have a Kuat Pivot mounted to my OEM hitch receiver with OEM bumper. Then 1up Heavy Duty Double mounted to the Kuat Pivot.

If I were going aftermarket bumper I would do something like the above and have a received mounted onto the swing out so the bike rack can swing with bumper.
