Rear Bumper Cover

Collective genius - I have a 2004 SE 4WD V8 with 209000 miles - pretty good vehicle outside of the transfer case actuator and the seat repair. On the 4th of July, I was backing out of a driveway in an historic coastal town, and bumped into a 2012 Subaru Impreza's rear door. Obviously, my insurance is covering everything, and the Subaru owners were quite friendly about my mistake.

The very slow hit did some damage to their door, and a little to my passenger side rear bumper cover. I believe that it was slow enough that no structural damage occurred to the bumper structure (<3mph) but it shifted and scraped the bumper cover. The cover is slightly scraped, and where it joins the body, is no longer flush -

Any ideas on what that cover would cost to replace or repair? I may do nothing - just not sure right now.

Thanks Superman - I'll try that, but it looks to be several months old. Any other ideas out there on new? I'll try a few scrapyards, too. I'm guessing new comes unpainted, but don't know -

Yeah, scrapyard might be a good starting point. I check RockAuto.com for new parts. Looks like it'll be around $218 if you piece everything together, unpainted. Could also try ebay. Doesn't look to be a cheap repair though. You might want to peel off what you got and see if it's salvageable. It could be a matter of epoxying some parts and doing some touch-up or repainting the thing. Maybe even a little bondo and sand. Or you could luck out and it might just need a little adjustment. Could save you big bucks if you're willing to put the time in.

Bondo sounds intimidating but really isnt that bad and at this point you have nothing to loose.

Check out youtube videos for some instruction, theres a youtube channel, i forget the name but I'm sure youll find it as its a top hit

lol i just recently backed mine into my wifes mustange in our driveway. The body shop that i took to have the estimate done (using all factory toyota replacement parts) quoted me $518 included new cover, paint, and a minor paintless dent removal.

my bumb up was about the same speed as yours. I had just a few scratches but the cover hangs a little like a clip or two is broken. I plan to just replace the clips myself, sand the scratches out of the plastic, then paint with some OEM matchin white paint. shouldnt be to much to clean up. toyota will charge quite alot for an factory cover however if you look into a company called Certifit Online they sale after market replacements for way cheap you just have to have them painted to match
