Rear bumper edge paint chips

Hello. I'm a proud owner of a 2016 Super White SR5. I noticed that I scratched the rear bumper edge from pulling out my golf travel bag in 6 spots. Paint scratches. I couldn't believe it. Anyone have this happen? What's the best way to repair? And what's the best way to prevent?

I don't know about fixing it, but best way to prevent any more is to stop hitting it with things like golf bags.

My dog has begun to do a number on mine, but nothing like those chips.

You had to have smacked it pretty hard.

Get it repainted, do a clear bra around those areas prone to wear, or ya know...just be more careful.

It will look like touchup paint. If that bothers you then you'd have to get it professionally repainted.

Had the same thing happen to me, and it doesn't take much to do. I have a 16 superwhite also and a guy loading a box leaned it on the bumper and slid it into the back. My heart stopped!

Several chips and paint removed from him doing this. I had a devil look and screamed "What the F***, I told you I got it" gotta love home depot helpers!

Anyway the good thing about the white is that using the Dr. Chip thing works well. I am by no means an artist or painter but my sloppy repair looks good from a foot away.

this is the only vehilce I have had this happen to. I think it has something to do with the white paint, I have read that there is no clear coat and it is mixed into the paint and creates a bad adhesion to the pastic. FWIW

The Tacoma had a big issue with the white and it was the primer that was causing the paint to come off so easy. Toyota looked at mine and said, We'll repaint it on your dime...

I have cleaned bugs off the front bumper after long road trips (highway) and paint has come off with the bugs! Litterally the force of the bug hitting my bumper at 70-80 mph has caused the paint to chip off. Down the line I will probably either lineX it or go aftermarket

I've had the same issue with unloading different things from the rig. I also was pretty disappointed for the paint to rub off the way it did... Metal bumpers would sure do the trick but I expect better quality.

I don't understand why Toyota didn't just make that black step pad extend so it wraps over the bumper corner a little bit. That painted corner is just asking to get chipped / scratched when loading the truck.

I only have one chip in mine so far, however my puppy just figured out he can jump into the back of the truck. I'm betting there will be a few more from him eventually.

how do you remove that rear black step pad ? I was thinking of using the plastic clear paint protector over the rear bumper and slightly under that step pad .

being with the plastic material paint lift I installed the plastic paint protector on the front bumper and the hood . looks good .

Same thing happened to me over the weekend. Pop up canopy accidentally slid off. Getting that middle section wrapped in satin black sunday.$350 to repaint it or $35 to wrap it in vinyl.

Canvasback Liners

You might also consider getting a canvasback liner that covers the carpeted areas on the back of the seats and cargo area. They have a flap accessory that velcros to the back of the liner that can be deployed and cover the bumper. I just keep mine on and fold it like in the pictures (obviously it would lay flat if my new sliders weren't in there). Great product!

I also considered doing the clear wrap for the discussed area as well as the front fascia and hood, but the wife shot down that expenditure. :moping:

I'm in the same situation. I picked up a tool box from home Depot and the helper smacked my rear bumper with the flatbed handle...

Anyway. I bought the cargo liner mentioned for my dog and to load his kennel or things on to it. This helps prevent scratches a lot better and if you can tell from the picture it extends down a lot farther. I got it on Amazon and the demo picture was a 4runner with a lab. I was sold haha (I just loaded my dog to snap a pic and No, I don't drive around with him snapped to the tow hitch)

Is it me or is the primer black under the super white? I have a few chips on the rear wrap around panel from backing out of a trail with lots of sagging tree limbs. The Dr. ColorChip looks like a good solution.

I have 2015 in white and have some paint issues on the bumper. I first noticed it on the underside of the corners of the read bumper where rocks must hit the bumper. The paint is really thin.

I'm expect more rear bumper dings so I'm not going to fix it, but Toyota's paint is not what it used to be. It stinks. My 1990 2nd Gen had paint to last a lifetime.

We also have 2 Prius' and they have crappy thin paint too. scratches when you blow on it.
