Rear Bumper Input Please

Where do you commonly find steel for things like rear bumpers? I need a bumper for my 99 and I can't pay $1,000 bucks for one. I think I could cut all the parts and have my friend weld it.

Does that sound goofy? I'm pretty handy but I don't weld.

no it does not sound goofy-but a bumper design is perhaps not something fabbed up on the spur of the moment.

You can buy mild steel even at Ace Hardware... it is not the stuff I would be using for a bumper. Think industrial steel-perhaps you have a nearby plant with scraps laying around....(?)

Check out some of the designs for rear bumpers at TTORA- the Tacoma guys do this a lot.

Also, Yota Tech ( I suggest newbie tech forum) is a bit more tech oriented than here and also IH8MUD.
