Rear bumper question ?

I believe its the hole to lower your spare tire.

So, to help out a little more RED123, look somewhere in your vehicle for tire changing tools. Originally was in one of the side storage bins in the rear, but could be under the rear seat with the jack (thats where I keep mine), or anywhere else or not there at all.
Well heck, now that I think about it, I'm not going to be much help. In the 12 years and 135k miles owning this 4R, I've only lowered my spare once just to see how it works. I've never had a flat in this. I'll throw in what I remember and I know others will fill in what I miss.
I believe there is one round bar, maybe 18" long, that has a hook at the end of it. And another that fits on the end of this to make a tee. Stick the hook end in the rectangular hole you see in the bumper and hook it onto "something" in there and start turning. You should start to see your spare lower. Also, check to make sure that your spare isn't chained or locked or secured some other way before lowering it.
Sorry, thought I could help more, but now that I think about, I've never really used this. I'm going to do this tomorrow just for the heck of it and to refresh my memory. :bash:
I looked at it a little closer today but it does not look like where you lower the spare in fact when you look in the hole you are looking exactly at the middle of the tread on the spare tire .The hole looks like something gets inserted into it and there is a plate with two holes in it like something bolts to it inside .You can access this if you take the plastic piece off the top of the bumper .Is this somewhere to bolt a class 1 hitch or something to the bumper ?
OK red, lets do it like this. If this is the hole that you are referring to:
That is the hole to lower your spare. Look under your rear seats for a long round bar bent like a hook at one end that is attached to clips:
And a couple of tools that look like this:
They might be in a pouch that looks like this:
Once you find them all, assemble them into something that looks like this:
Insert them into the hole in your bumper at an angle going to the left.
The hook end goes into the part of the hoist mechanism under the bumper and looks like this:
Start turning counter clockwise until your spare starts to lower:
And is finally flat on the ground:
