Rear bumper repair question

I need to replace the rear bumper center cover after being rear ended.


Using this site:
Genuine OEM BUMPER & COMPONENTS - REAR Parts for 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail - Olathe Toyota Parts Center

I figured I would need these parts:

1 x center cover 52169-35110 $141.38
2 x center cover clip 75392-0R010 $1.78ea
2 x center cover rivet 90467-07201 $1.58ea

Is this correct? Are there separate clips or adhesive strips behind the cover?

And if you wanna do something a bit different, smooth out the plastic edges, take it to a sign shop, have them throw down some DiNoc carbon fiber vinyl over it and make them wrap about an inch down around the bend!

Or, matte black vinyl...
Or, matte charcoal vinyl...
Or, met. silver vinyl with clear bra material over it...

Any of these will be pennies compared to what you'll be spending at the dealership, will look cool and will also offer some protection on that edge from loading/unloading items in the back!

Unless you never, ever put big/heavy items in the back of your 4runner, that edge WILL get nicked up over time! Why not save the money and do something neat that will also offer some light protection against future scuffs?

Both of these are great ideas but let me make some clarifying statements.

#1 This is a leased vehicle. I would like to keep it as close to factory as possible.

#2 The person who hit me is covering the cost of the repair.

Just the clips, no adhesives. I tore mine off while off roading a couple years ago. But you will need to carefully remove the rear bumper cap to replace it. Most are not accessible with the bumper cover installed.

someone hit you and they are paying for it? why even go through the trouble doing it yourself, just get it fixed at the dealership at the next service.

Thanks i'm trying to remove my rear bumper cover also and it looks like the whole bumper does has to come off First seems weird for Toyota i couldn't believe it , but I think the whole bumper has to come off

Pretty much. Look here. IIRC there are also 2 bolts under the bumper cover in the vicinity of the spare tire.

If it's leased and you have to repair it, just take it to a body shop. Those parts don't come painted.

I tried that first. The dealer said that is considered body work and they don't do body work.

I am giving myself options. I have a quote from the body shop but since 4 cars were involved there is a possibility that my damage may not be covered by the person at faults insurance. There is also the timeline with 4 vehicles it could take months.

There is no way I am making the claim on my insurance so I have a low cost option of replacing the piece myself or the high cost option of the body shop.

Why would you not make the claim on your own insurance? There is no reason to be out of pocket if they are at fault.

If you make the claim with your insurance they will go after the other insurance, your only risk being the deductible. Your rates won't increase, why would you want to pay for this yourself?

Hey bro would you know anything about the clips on the top of the bumper that connects to the frame of the car. I got into a gnarly situation that pushed the back bumper out and the clips don't realign

Your best bet would be taking it to the body shop, unless you do your own painting.

If the clips won't re-align I'm guessing something else may be bent. I'm not 100% sure what you are referring to but I think you meant the 2 ears that go under the taillights and around the sides? I was fortunate enough when I installed the CBI bumper I was able to trim my bumper cap while it was still attached to the vehicle. So I have to admit I still don't know where those particular upper clips go.
