Rear cargo light

When I flip it to the on position it goes on, but when I have it on the auto, when you open the rear hatch it doesn't go on? What could be the problem? Once out of like 50 tries it'll come on for a bit then go away...

Your sensor is probably shot. Does the open door light turn on the gauge cluster when you open the tailgate? Open your driver's door, look at the gauge and you should see the light come on for reference. I have never looked to see where the sensor is on the tailgate so you'll have to look around. On the doors you'll see a little oval shaped black piece of rubber and when you push it in you will see the front overhead light go off and back on when you release.

The light on my gauge doesn't come on when I open the tail gate, but when I open a passenger door the light in the center goes on and the tail gate when opened flickers. I just checked and when I opened it, it went on, but now it doesn't. Anyone know where the sensor is and if it could be replaced?

Thanks for your help bootown, I hope others will chime in later, I will be checking it out tomorrow morning because it's really cold out now.

Yeah, mine does the same thing. I'm pretty sure you have to replace the entire latch. There is a small harness going to the latch, so I assume the sensor is in there. I haven't bothered to do it because it's $100!

If you can get the latch out, though...it might be worth trying to just clean up the contacts. I assume everything back there gets pretty dirty.

I tried cleaning up the contacts and noticed one of the plugs was a little bit loose, so I finished up there and put everything back together and it worked for a bit, I tried opening and closing and it worked but the 7th time it wouldn't go on, I think when you close the hatch in the back with enough force it moves the inside parts around and causes it to not go on...any one else have any ideas?
