Rear clanking noise

Hey guys, yesterday I replaced the front rotors on my 2000 and I just noticed a rear clanking noise. It's only when I hit a bump and its definetly coming from the rear driver side suspension. I had a buddy shake the car while I was looking at the strut and the noise seemed to be coming from that or around that. Any ideas as to what I did to it!? Did I jack it up wrong? Did I mess it up or is it just a coincidence with the front brake job I did? Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you

Can't imagine what would a front brake job do to mess up rear suspension. I had a pretty loud clank in the rear for a while. Turned out to be sagged body mounts and bumper hitting the hitch when going over bumps. It was literally sitting on top of the hitch, almost touching. Replaced body mounts, gained around 3/4" in body height with no spacers. No clunking any more. You might want to check your body mounts.

Thanks for the reply but narrowed it down to the rear driver side strut. Is it blown if it's making that noise?

Sounds like a coincidence to me. The top bolt on the rear shock could have came loose? Coil also be sagging coils causing you to hit the bump stops when you go over a bump or maybe your sway bar links

I hope it's a coincidence and I didn't screw anything up. While my buddy was shaking the car I put my hand on the strut itself and it was definitely the cause of the noise.. I'll check if the bolt is loose when I get home from work. Thanks for the replys guys it really helps!

One of the worst noises I've ever heard while going over bumps... Do I just need to scrap and get all new struts and everything!? I was planning on lifting anyways so might just park it and drive the old car until get new suspension parts

At least you won't have to fight with that shock to get it out!

$120 will get you two KYB Gas-A-Just shocks and a couple Moog springs. Then drive it until your ready to put on your lift.

Or you could keep the coils and just put in new shocks for $80.

Well if money is a big issue, I think you have three choices:

1) don't drive it till you get the lift on.

2) just do the lift now.

3) go to the junk yard and pull an OEM shock off a similar year truck and throw it into yours as a patch-job until you are ready to do your lift. At least you will be able to drive without a shock flopping around causing trouble.
