Rear Custom bumper $550 CDN!!!

Greetings All!

I just got my new rear custom bumper from a guy up here in Ontario!

I paid the $100 extra for the tow stuff ( 2 inch reciver built in ) he does the rear swing tire holder and anything else you need... I asked him to weld something up were i could still use my stock black piece.. so its not so open.

I'll post a pic soon...

He makes them for anyone who wants them. not limited to the 3rd gen he does jeeps and stuff too..

I do have a Question for ya though..

I now have a bare steel bumper..... and I am losing me marbles trying to figure out how to prime and paint the thing... Zinc chromate primer? Rust check primer, self etching primer... no one has a clear answer whats best..

He can powder coat for 100 bucks but I'm worried about loosing the who cares factor of bringing a spray can with me to hide the fact i did something stupid.

Any Ideas???

Yeah, pics are a must.
I heard that all you need to do in wipe it down with a solvent such as acetone, toluene, etc. It might not be a bad idea to get some 80 grit sandpaper and sand her down before cleaning it with the solvent so the primer has something to grab on to. As for paints, if you not gonna PC it I suggest just using good ole' rusto. Rustolum blacks and whites are all tried and true. Even their painters touch2X is amazingly long lasting. What do you think a train writers favorite brand is??? The thing that sucks is Rustolum and most other brands have gone to female caps, compared the good ole' males. These female caps cant be replaced like the males which come in different types (wide spray, medium spray, narrow spray*aka the stock reds on rustolums before the female cap), I would just prime with decent primer, and matte black it which is typically harder to find than gloss. I think that Elmers Glue make a fat female cap that is much better for doing large surface painting compared to the stock ones these days.
If you can find old school rusto, check this site out for cap sizes.

where in Ontario are you? I visit my sister in Ottawa and could see me taking a side trip to replace my rusty bumper....
 
powder coat it black, powder coating is super tough, and if you do scratch it you can always touch it up with some rattle can... and yes :worthless
 
por15 is baddass paint, powder coating is great aswell but expensive from what I hear.

(then again por aint cheap)

I have decided to check out powder coating, its 100 dollars to do so... the etching priomer is 15 bucks a can alone... 2 of those plus the sealer and paint will be close to powder coating.

I know you're all excited about getting something new, but that is just not kind to post about it without pics! :bash:
 
In my experience powder will last longer... If you stick to colors that can be purchased in rattle can you will be able to keep it looking good longer. Por-15 is an amazing product it takes days to get off your skin :biggrin2: The down side is the cost por15 + plus the UV protection = $$ If you don't treat POR-15 with some kind of protection it will sun fade quickly. In the end powder becomes a better option
