Rear Defog Not working

Hello folks,

My 04 rear defog and side mirrors are not working when the defog switch is pressed.

I have checked the fuses, all fuses are good.
The defog switch doesn't light up when pressed.
Could it be the switch is bad? And how would I remove the switch to check for power? TIA for your help.

I think they are on a circuit breaker, not a fuse, but I don't have my FSM handy to be sure.

I looked at the fuse box in the engine bay.
I found a defog 30A fuse and a defog relay.
The 30A fuse checked out OK, and the relay was swapped with another one but problem still exsit. This is why I think it's the switch, but of course not 100%. I need to remove the switch to check for power but need some hints to remove the panel that the switch is mounted to.

Roll the tailgate window all the way down, then roll it all the way up and hold for 5 secs, now try the defrost button again. It should come on.

Yub! That was it!! Thanks a lot! Now I remember, I removed the battery a while back, I did the fast calibration for the driver side window but never thought I had to do the rear window, live and learn everyday!!!

Still don't like the stupid Japanese logic though.

Oh! BTW, I would have picked Pho over Rice any days!

Sometimes I wish I live in CA. Around here I'm lucky if I can find a good bowl of pho, never mind com suong nuong, buon thit nuong and etc...

So, since I'm a new 4Runner owner (3 days) what do you have to do if the battery is disconnected for one reason or another? Is there a way to get around this by supplying a temp 12v source while the battery is out?

Nah! Hooking up another source of power while removing the battery may do more harm than good.

Re- calibrate the window, sunroof and rear hatch takes less than 3 minutes.
