rear diff breather annoyance

This "Scuba Drivers Mod" has been done by many off-road/water fording 4X4 enthusiasts.
It is well documented on the web for different vehicles and in many different ways for the same reason, to keep water from being sucked into the seals from the differential and fluids changing temp while driving thru water crossings.
I am waiting on the parts to do mine on my T4R, but here is the parts used when I did mine on my FJ shown in this link:

When I search for rear diff breather info on the internet, I find mostly Toyota links. Is the need for this mod common in other makes as well--Jeep, Ford, Nissan, Hummer, etc? Or is it necessary due to a Toyota manufacturing "oversight"?

I owned an older Ford Explorer before my 4Runner and it was one of the first mods I did before wheeling it. Quite common with that group as well.

I picked up the parts last week to do the rear diff on the 4Runner for future travels. :thumb3:
