rear emblem removal

I want to remove the 4runner and sr5 emblem off the back of my 98. Is there a easy method to remove the emblems and is the rear 4runner emblem held on by adhesive only or adhesive and tabs/screw?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Im pretty sure someone will ask why.?.?.? Hilux_surf badge will replace it.

I use fishing line and kinda saw back and forth. I never did any damage to my paint. They are held on with like a foam tape, similair to 3M. The middle Toyota logo also has two pins that hold it in. There are no screws or anything.

I second the previous poster's advice, if you don't have fishing line, the blades from a razor knife (exacto knife) works in the same manor. Just be sure not to scratch the paint.

Once the emblem is off, use some "Goo Gone" or other adhesive or glue remover to get rid of the remainder of the adhesive. Wash with soap and water, rince....dry....and then NEW EMBLEMS!

I removed by "Toyota" and "SR5 V6" emblems to add these:

make sure you heat that thing up. it will make it much much easier. I 2nd the fishing line though iv'e removed and re-applied mine. fishing line was great!

The 4runner badge has pins as well. Also if you don't have fishing line, dental floss works. And there is really no need to heat it up. Good luck

If i remove th 4runner badge off the middle garnish will it look re****ed . Are the 2 pin holes big? Should i just replace it with a 99+ rear center garnish?

Too much work for a silly emblem, I know. I think it would look clean without them. Hilux_Surf x 4runner.Its a contradiction.

Im gonna attempt the satoshi mod and stick a hilux surf emblem up front too. What do you guys think?

Are you kidding me? did your guys really just come off without heating it? I broke some fishing line trying to get mine off (before i heated it up) but once i put the blow dryter on mine up it practically fell off.

i duno IMO I think doing this will help in taking the glue off avoid scratching your paint. Goo gone doesn't work as well with that dried stuff. (for me it didn't anyway)

I didn't heat mine up, but I did let it sit in the sun and it was like 100 degrees out. It did the trick

To get the foam off safely and easily I used a grafitti eraser attached to a drill.

You can get them at Autozone, Walmark, and other auto places.

I did mine 3 weeks ago when it was around 60 degrees outside. I used braided fishing line and just sawed it off. When I got to a pin I gently lifted what I had sawed and fed the line through on the other side of the pin and kept going. After that I just peeled the foam off with my fingers then hit it with goo gone. Cleaned the truck and emblems, sanded the emblems, painted and reapplied. The hardest part was trimming the double sided tape and applying to the emblems

X2. My first attempt was at ambient temp. Was getting nowhere fast. Then I used a hair dryer and bam, came off like butter with a little line.

Yea I tried to remove one of them when they were cold with some heavy duty fishing line like 100LB Test and it snapped over and over

Thats what I did on my '96. Is the hilux emblem flat? or will it fit into the holes that the 4runner emblem is in?
