Rear end shake

Hey T4R

Have had my 98 sr5 5-speed for a year now. Put almost 25k on it since last August. But recently when I get over 60mph the truck starts to vibrate. When I pull it out of gear it gets worse. I have lubed all the zerks on the drive shaft and checked everything from the t-case to the wheel bearings and the only thing that seems odd is I do get some lateral movement in the t-case output bearing. But the seal is good and it is minimal movement. Does anyone else have this play? Also it seems as if there is play in the drivetrain lately as when I engage into reverse, I almost feel it take the slack out before movement begins.

Make sure you have no weights missing of the drive shaft. Make sure the bolts aren't loose. Check your rear UCA and LCA bolts. Male sure your drive shaft isn't bent !

I'd take a prybar and check bushings etc in the rear. Look for any movement where it shouldn't be. Have you checked your rear wheel bearings as well? This could be many things, quite possibly even a tranny mount etc.

Finally got under it. The output on the t-case is shot. Causing the whole t-case and trans to shake. Will most likely need a t-case and trans mount. Does anyone know if any tacoma 5-speed t-case will work or is it different for the 5-speed t4r?
