Rear end won't engage

I have a 1999 4runner 4wd auto. Yesterday I went and picked up a motorcycle on a small open trailer, when I went to pull away after it was loaded, I heard a pop and it would just rev up in drive. I ended up putting it in 4wd high, and it drove fine just to get home. Transmission shifted fine so it has to be something else.

Any ideas? 282k miles on the truck btw

read the thread ...kaboom
mind did similar, had to drive home in 4wd high, which really made the 4runner a front wheel drive.
dont drive it anymore or you wil be stranded
