My 2016 SR5 with 15750 miles was hit by a BMW at the front right corner and she was driving so fast she bounced off and must have kept her foot on the accelerator as she hit me again in the rear corner as I coasted to a stop.

Both of you are on the "Japanese" side of the road! If this happen "State-side", how in the world did you two end up where you are in the picture?

The picture does not show the "T" intersection. She had a stop sign and I did not. When I was entering the intersection, she stood on the accelerator and was turning left. I saw her, leaned on the horn, hit the brakes and veered to the left, hoping to avoid the collision, but there was nothing I could do. That is how we ended up on the wrong side of the road.

Sorry to see this. It could happen to anyone.
#1. You get to pick the body shop. Pick one you like who does top notch work. Ask them questions about frame damage. Get your own quote for repairs.
#2. Most people don't realize they don't have to accept that little compact car as the rental. If you need the 4Runner for a trip, or that's what you want to drive while yours is fixed, you can ask for and get a comparable loaner car.
#3. The problem with totaling the car and settling for a cash payment is that they give you Kelley Blue Book on your car. Good luck finding a new one to replace it for that amount of cash. You'll be out the difference.

Thank you for the advice everyone. My Insurance company said the women driving the 2017 F 250 is at fault for the accident and I talked with her insurance company today. Should here back from there claims agent tomorrow. Im going to stop by a local body shop in the morning and see what they say.

This happened in MA and they have demished value laws so that will hopefully work in my favor if it is repaired. The rear of the frame will have to be cut and new cross member put on if it is fixed. Since i tow boats I am not really Happy about that.

Im lucky i put a few thousand down when I purchased the 4 runner so I owe much less then its worth. So either way it goes i might still look at a new one. I will keep you all posted on what happens.

this is why you DONT leave the hitch in the receiver. just asking for more expensive repairs. would rather you bend your frame or have to replace the plastic bumper???? lol good luck.

I always keep mine in, but I felt you made a good point. I went outside to remove my hitch and the receiver with nothing in it still sticks out about a half inch past the bumper. Seems like even if there is nothing in the receiver and you get rear ended, it's still going to cave in like that no matter what.

yea true. my thought is the bumpers and other collapsible crap will take the brunt of the impact first though. instead of the hitch poking through the radiator and catching a frame rail/cross member and transferring all that energy straight to your frame. its a lose/lose tho, getting rear ended sucks regardless lol

If it's repaired I would skip the steel bumpers for now. I would let the repair shop restore to factory specs all the way. This allows the body shop to investigate and repair all related damage.

Well it took about 3 and a half weeks to get all the repairs done. They replaced the rear cross member of the frame, which was pushed into the spare tire, which also bent the cross member that holds said tire. That cross member was also replaced. The tire was then pushing into the Lateral Control arm which was rubbing on the rear differential. I thought I heard something when I was driving. Rear hatch, some inner body panels, rear bumper cover, front bumper cover and grill pieces were also replaced.

The paint came out excellent. I was very happy.

They had a hell of a time getting the rear wiper and window to work after they replaced the hatch. They had to bring it to Toyota to get it programmed or something. After a week it stopped working. So hopefully this won't be a reoccurring thing.

What i wasn't happy with was the gap on the rear hatch. This should have been fixed but wasn't. Since there is so much gap the hatch actually rubs against the body which I can't believe they didn't see. They ordered some new hinges but I can't see how that is going to help.

It goes back to the shop tomorrow morning for the new hinges so I guess I will know soon if it works.

So far the cost has been around $8000 for the repair.

But I wouldn't want to be in front of a F-250 in your state with a Patriots sticker on
