Rear ended need advice

My 10 SR5 was rear ended this past Friday. Too look at it you wouldn’t notice much, but the hitch is twisted to the left, bumper cover is damaged, and the other dominoes that come with such impact.

The appraiser just left and wants to replace the bumper cover, hitch (structural), and other things they find when the shop starts tearing into it. Will have to be out on a straightening rack.

My question is should I fix it or take the money?
Vehicle has just about 200,000 miles on it, but it’s in very good shape and runs very well. The damage from the accident doesn’t seem to affect anything. Hatch closes fine, No noises, everything seems to work (backup sensors).

Obviously the hitch is compromised, but I don’t tow with this vehicle as I have a tundra for that.

Thoughts or opinions?

That looks very minor. I was rearended in my FJ. The hitch took the brunt. Definitely keep it. If you had it for 200,000k, says a lot about you as a owner. You love the car.

Maybe just buy a replacement hitch and try and bolt a new straight one on and if it doesn't go for the repair otherwise keep the money?

Replace bumper cover, replace hitch, paint and material, labor. I am guessing $1k+

If you don't use the hitch, and don't care about the damage, I would keep the money.

Edit to clarify: Still bring the truck in to have a full appraisal done, and get the money from insurance.

I would estimate more in the $4.5k+ range...and if there is frame damage maybe $6k+

I had a similar accident on my 2014 with at the time 60,000mi and I was paid out about $7,350.00. I don't know if being in NY made a difference.

Hello, I got rear ended on my 2016 4runner limited too. I am fixing it myself
