Rear-ended someone this morning...

Just a friendly reminder to watch your speed and following distances, and to be aware that your 4,500lb 4runner cannot stop as quickly as a Honda Civic! Thankfully the other driver was OK, and the damage was minor to both cars. I ended up cracking all of the bumper/grille components (and probably pushed in the bumper supports etc.), but the headlights, fenders, and hood all thankfully look to be damage free and the body gaps look like they line up normally. The civic surprisingly came through OK as well, with the rear bumper pushed in, and some dents on the rear trunk lid. I think the big, flat front of the 4runner, combined with a square hit minimized the damage.

Truck goes into the shop next Tuesday...ugh. I'll post up some pictures of the carnage later.

Ouch. I hate to hear that man. It's always especially hard when a new(ish) vehicle is involved in an accident so soon. At least no one was injured, and that's why we have insurance. Trucks can be fixed, so life goes on. Glad everyones fine.

Sorry to hear that, but if makes you feel any better, I did the exact same thing on my new 4Runner after I'd only had it for two weeks. Only difference is I rear-ended a CR-V with the stupid tire mounted on the back. Didn't hit her too hard, but because of the tire, it crunched in the bumper, grill, slightly bent the hood and pushed the fender back. $3200 of damage. Quite a bummer, especially since I'd never been in an accident before, but oh well... just gotta be more careful (and avoid CR-Vs that stop short).

I have gotten it fixed yet as they need to replace the hood and repaint the front end. I go up to the mountains every weekend so I'm waiting until spring. I'm still nervous they will have trouble matching the blizzard pearl paint... but the body shop says they can do it and they have good reviews. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sounds painful! My grille is pushed in so that the plastic is slightly over the hood (making the hood unable to open), but I don't think my hood is damaged. I'm not going to mess with it or try to open the hood for fear of causing more issues; I'll let the body shop figure it out.

Sorry to hear your news, but good to see nobody was hurt.

On a related note, I have wondered how our 5th gens would do if rear ended. The bumper doesn't extend out very far. It wouldn't surprise me if a low impact collision caused a lot of damage because of this.

The airbags did not deploy. My guess is the impact was at 10-12 MPH, but I don't really know since I was stomped on the brake pedal.

4shorerunner, Cherner Collision in DC is going to do the work. My insurance recommended them, the online feedback is good, and they use OEM parts and guarantee their work for the life of the vehicle so i am pretty comfortable with them.

Was driving a 2008 BMW w/ the ability to stop on a dime....barely had to depress the pedal.
