Rear Hatch Handle-Deep Scratch

Hello:

I noticed that the handle used to open/lift the rear cargo hatch (the one that closes automatically) has a 3 inch long scratch. Is the handle made of plastic. It seems to be. If it's metal, then I'll need to have it fixed to prevent rust. I scratched it while lifting some picture frames. The scratch is located close to where the Toyota emblem is.
